השירים ששרים אותנו - The Songs That Sing Us
The music we listen to, and the manginot we sing, allow us to sanctify moments in time and to elevate our human experience. Through song, Marsha and Galit will share a musical journey that will reveal their encounter with what is human and what is Divine. As Martin Buber taught in his seminal work, I and Thou, we can find God’s presence through our relationship with one another. There are moments that stir us in the stories we tell stories of our moledet (our Homeland), and in our relationship with the Hebrew language, that can uncover the many layers of sincere prayer. We want to invite our community of cantors to share in our musical bouquet that has inspired love and gratitude in us.

Galit Dadoun-Cohen brings a unique voice to the cantorate, combining a diverse Sephardic background with extensive classical musical training. Born and raised in Ashdod, Israel, she earned her Bachelor of Music and Artist Diploma from the Rubin Academy of Music of Tel Aviv University and her Master of Music from Brooklyn College – City University of New York. In 2010, Dadoun-Cohen received her cantorial ordination from the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. Since then, she has served as the Cantor of Temple B'nai Or in Morristown, N.J

Galit Dadoun-Cohen has sung opera and classical song in festivals, concerts, and various projects throughout the United States, Europe and Israel. In her cantorate, she strives to deepen the connection with one’s Jewish identity, through music, study, and community building
.
During her studies at HUC, Cantor Dadoun-Cohen explored the fusion of traditional Sephardic folk song with Western art music in Jewish music of the 20th century. She enjoys contemporary Israeli music, opera, chanson, and the Hazzanut tradition. These days she is exploring women’s expression and strengthening that voice in Judaism. She is committed to creating bridges between Israeli and Diaspora Jewry.

Marsha Attie, a well known and beloved cantor in San Francisco, is a soulful singer, composer, and recording artist. She is a one of a kind cantor who is known for bringing an authentic and heart-felt voice to her music that softens and comforts the hardened heart. Marsha started her musical career as a song leader in the Jewish camps of California, where you can still find her working every summer, and her original compositions have become a staple of camp and synagogue life around the country. Marsha has always been a dancer and strives to integrate a variety of creative modalities into her spiritual and creative life.
