This concert features a unique blend of Hazzanut and Yiddish song. With Yiddish as the expression of daily life and emotion and hazzanut expressing our deepest prayers, these two genres connect in a heartfelt way. On the Yiddish stage, theatrical pieces with “khazones” in the middle were a way of engaging star cantors to thrill theater audiences. In art and folk songs, Yiddish poetry painted a picture of how tefilah and hazzanut influenced us in our individual lives. You’ll hear classic pieces of a genre never before collected into one concert. Select pieces will also adapt to present times through new verses and instrumentation.
